Updated Deaths Information

The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare has released new web updates on the Deaths web pages including updates to GRIM and MORT books.
Some of the latest death statistics include:
1.  There were 153,580 deaths registered in Australia in 2014
2. Two-thirds (66%) of deaths were among people aged over 75 years
3.  Over the period 1907 to 2014, the age-standardised death rate fell by 73%
4. Chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, dementia and cancers, continue to be the leading cause of death in the overall population, however younger people tend to die from external causes such as transport accidents and suicide

5. Australia has one of the highest life expectancies in the world, at 84.4 years for females and 80.3 years for males born in 2012-2014.
